Sherlock Fucking Holmes. I'm going to need some permissions up in this piece for this lunatic.

As you probably know, Sherlock is famous (or nefarious, depending on your opinion) for being ridiculously observant. However, this version is far from all-knowing. It would be quite a godmode if he was, and where'd be the fun in that?

However, keeping him observant but not god-modey if he comes across your character will take some work, especially if I'm not terribly familiar with your canon. (I try, but I'm not omnipotent either. :) I am sure this will lead me to asking you absurd questions at unexpected times, but I thought some pro-active permissions-y thingies might help out, if you are so inclined.

So, a bit of a rundown on his deductive method.

Things he can do:

Notice everything – tangible. Five senses stuff. What you’re wearing, how you sound, your jewelry, your scent, your gait, etc etc. If you're from a world similar to his he may have a pretty good frame of reference for pegging you correctly based on this kind of information. If not… well, excellent, he really needs to work on learning he can't always be right. ;)

Things he can't do:

He is not psychic. Everything he does is, essentially, guesswork. He relies upon the senses, so especially if you have a superpower that is suppressed until manifested, he can't just divine that you have it. In Anatole, that will put you at more of an advantage than he would like, but he's just going to have to get used to it.

If you'd like to help me out by giving some preliminary details Sherlock can or can't notice when meeting your character, I'd be grateful! Even so, I'll undoubtedly also have to rely on icons, context clues, and late night inquiries about what dirt might be stuck on your character's shoes. But that is the fun in roleplaying (or maybe I'm just a freak!), so I look forward to it.

And a second, although somewhat related matter. Still, I don't think it would affect everyone, so I'm putting it here separately.

I'm well-aware that I am playing an incarnation of one of the most recognizable characters in Western literary canon. Although the policy on 4th-walling at Scorched is generally "don't," I also can't ignore how many subsequent works of fiction were not only influenced by the character of Sherlock Holmes but tend to directly reference him. I know the BBC version is quite different (i.e. the modern setting, etc), but I also don't want to force anyone's character to not even recognize the name "Sherlock Holmes" if, canonically, they would. (Kuroshitsuji and Detective Conan, I'm looking at you, and I'm sure there are others.)

Somewhat luckily, due to canon point reasons, Sherlock will be trying to pass unnoticed as himself for the time being, so he won't just be handing out his name to passersby. Still, I don't anticipate this lasting forever, so I'd love to have a chat in case you think your character would respond to someone sporting the iconic name. I'm sure we can figure out something that isn't too 4th-wall-breaking. I tend to welcome chaos and confusion, so come at me, bro. :D
